One of the first things on the Ontario Progressive Conservative agenda was to change OHIP+. Fundamentally the program will be the same, including who is covered and what is covered; however the government will now be 2nd payor instead of 1st payor.
Individuals who currently have private health care coverage will now be first payor of prescription drugs for Ontario residents under the age of 25. Only if the individual is not covered will those eligible claims continue to be paid by the Province of Ontario under the OHIP+ plan.
The effective date of this change has not been officially announced but Christine Elliott says she is committed to working with private carriers to ensure a smooth transition.
