This week we’re learning more about Alex Sernoskie at Capcorp Financial Corporation
What inspired you to enter the industry?
I’ve always been a numbers and puzzle person. I was the weird kid in school who enjoyed being able to solve math problems. Getting into benefits gave me real-world math problems and puzzles to solve.
Who is your mentor?
I have a lot of great mentors here at Capcorp. Graham Young has been my primary mentor and has really helped kickstart my career by providing knowledge, guidance, and room to improve. I work with an excellent advisor team and our account management team is always ready to help. Everyone here helps to provide a perfect environment to grow.
What are some things that people don’t know about you?
When I was growing up I always had aspirations to become a comedian (which always surprises people to learn). I’m generally a quiet and reserved person but I love making jokes and getting people to laugh!
What are the biggest lessons that you have learned in the business?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is that there is no one right way to do things. It’s certainly important to keep an open mind because there’s almost always a better way to do something, you just need to figure it out.
Do you have insights about the industry that you would like to share?
Technology has changed so much in our lives but I don’t think it’s really scratched the surface in the benefits world. We’re all so connected, my phone can connect and talk to most things in my house but a lot of areas in benefits don’t connect. In the future, I can see improvements in connectivity and how different parts of the benefits world will begin to talk to each other.
