This week we’re learning more about Pamela J. Hinam, B.Comm (Hons.) at The Winch Group

What inspired you to enter the industry?

Family and friends.

UNUM’s rigorous recruiting processes in USA, combined with successes that my oldest sibling & best friend were enjoying at UNUM Canada, ultimately gave me the confidence to embark upon a career in the benefits industry. Am delighted with my chosen career path. I love studying data, financials, plan parameters, new technology, etc. to ensure the best experience and financial arrangements are in-place for clients.

Who is your mentor?

Every Benefits Alliance Group fellow Board of Directors & Members have been impactful Mentors over the years! My first Boss back in 1992, Hans Morsches (UNUM – Toronto) was a solid Mentor. Hans demanded greatness from everyone daily; and invested time to make certain our team had every intelligence advantage. Additionally, have been blessed with leadership excellence at Maritime Medical Care (now Medavie Blue Cross), MARSH Canada & Mercer Human Resource Consulting.

What are some things that people don’t know about you?

United Way Volunteer in various capacities since 1995; Co-created IWK Children’s Hospital War Canoe Challenge fundraiser that raised more than $2M in HRM; Co-creator of AUTISM Golf Ball Committee that raised more than $1M; Proud Franchise Owner of a NS Female AAA U-18 Hockey Team: ACTION Benefits Penguins and a 20-year veteran at Canadian Blood Services as a Blood Donor.

What are the biggest lessons that you have learned in the business?

We are providing advice to our clients so it’s important to stay current. Our knowledge, experience and insight collectively power an excellent employee benefit plan experience for our clients. I love this relationship-based-business!

Do you have insights about the industry that you would like to share?

BA’s April 2022 Spring Conference key-note speaker, Ron Tite offered fantastic insight for everyone, not just our Industry. As we move ahead during Covid-19, it isn’t about going back, nor recovery. It is important to be mindful that this is about accelerating forward towards reinvention and growth: Personal, Divisional, Organizational and Community growth!
