This week we’re learning more about James Casorso at CapriCMW Benefits Inc.

What inspired you to enter the industry?

Like many others, this industry found me. Chris Nielsen at our firm coached me in hockey when I was 12-13 years old. He remained a family friend over the years… Low and behold, 10+ years later he reached out with an opportunity to join the CapriCMW team once I graduated from University.

Who is your mentor?

I have been fortunate enough to work for a Company with many experienced Advisors! If I had to “narrow” it down, Chris Nielsen, Steve Hesketh, Genevieve Kelln, and Jeff Cox have all been extremely generous with their time in helping me grow as an Advisor. I am very grateful for all the Advisors I get to lean on in our shop, however these 4 have spent a lot of time helping me grow my business. What I appreciate most about my mentors is they do things the right way. Though these individuals are amazing Advisors, they are even better people. I consider myself very lucky to have them in my corner.

What are some things that people don’t know about you?

Before insurance, I was months away from pursuing a career in professional golf! Golf is still a big part of my life, but no longer play much competitively (just the odd local event). Very happy with where I have ended up!

What are the biggest lessons that you have learned in the business?

Having an open mind. You need to be able to adapt, be flexible, and ALWAYS be willing to learn! I (again) am extremely lucky to be on a diverse team with who are consistently coming up with creative ideas. I think if you are open to trying new things, not afraid to fail, looking at things through a new lens, willing to adapt and change with the times, you will be a very successful Advisor. Sounds cliché, but its true.

Do you have insights about the industry that you would like to share?

Again, its sounds cliché, but I think we are in a really exciting time! There is a lot going on in our industry, but I think some good areas to focus on moving forward are the Mental Health/Wellness & Group Retirement space. I believe these lines of benefit really help employees long-term and will be essential for growth in our business.
