We’re learning about Harry Matheis, Chief Catalyst & Founder of Matheis Financial Group.
Where are you based?
Pickering/Durham Region and GTA
Please introduce yourself.
I am a curious lifelong learner. I run a Total Rewards consulting firm here in Toronto — my grandfather’s philosophy was always that it comes down to people, connection, clarity, and trust, and that’s basically become the whole operating principle of how I run my business. I’m also in the middle of launching a new venture, Harmony Advisors, because I think a lot of my industry has drifted into cold, checkbox-y advice, and I wanted to build something that actually puts people first again.
What do you appreciate most about being a Benefits Alliance Member?
Sense of community towards making this business better in our service to clients and businesses in Canada, and where the business takes us.
What is your favourite part of your role?
Caring, helping, mentoring and working towards better outcomes from the messy middle.
How do you define success?
Living within the guideposts of integrity and trust.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your role or in this industry?
Helping businesses and C-suite players find courage to lead.
How do you manage work/life balance?
I don’t…always “on” as I love what I do and the day is an intertwining of relationships, high/low lights and challenges- enjoy the rhythm of the dance no matter what camp it is in.
What books/resources do you recommend that every business person should check out?
It depends on the interest or curiosity level – self-help to always be better and expand perspective, and a good “Locked-door Murder mystery” for intrigue.
What advice would you give to people who want to join this industry?
Care, Trust, Integrity, Walking the Talk.
If your friends/family/colleagues were to give you an award, what would it be for?
Probably for being the go-to trip planner. I love researching destinations in depth and putting together thoughtful itineraries that optimize for local, authentic experiences. I enjoy finding the places, neighborhoods, and activities that make a trip feel memorable rather than generic.
If someone would make a documentary about you, what would be the title?
…Its All About the Journey…Not the Destination…
