We’re learning about Cassy Price at Human Capital Benefits.
Where in Canada are you based?
Collingwood, Ontario
Please introduce yourself.
I have been in the employee benefits and group retirement industry for over 10 years with experience in both domestic and international markets. Having worked with clients of all sizes across a variety of industries, I recognize there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to employee benefit and retirement plans. This allows me to work closely with clients to design and manage programs that align with their benefits philosophy and budget.
What do you appreciate most about being a Benefits Alliance member?
The ability to connect and collaborate with industry professionals to share knowledge, trends, and case studies.
What is your favourite part of your role?
I firmly believe that what we do in the benefits and retirement world matters and has real measurable impacts on our clients and their employees day to day lives.
How do you define success?
As Einstein said “Try not to be a man of success but rather try to become a man of value.” To me success is defined by providing meaningful results and creating a positive lasting impact on those I work with.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your role or in this industry?
Employee education and engagement, especially with respect to group retirement savings plans, EFAP’s and Virtual Health. There are so many tools and resources available to employees through these programs, and it can be challenging to promote utilization among employees.
How do you manage work/life balance?
I recognize I am my best work self when I take time to be my best overall self. This includes making time to do things I love and truly disconnecting from the digital world.
What books/resources do you recommend that every business person should check out?
I enjoy reading and a list of my top 5 “must reads” in business are: Good Strategy/Bad Strategy – Richard Rumelt; The Five Dysfunctions of a Team – Patrick Lencioni; High Output Management – Andrew Grove; The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen Covey and Atomic Habits – James Clear
What advice would you give to people who want to join this industry?
What we do matters. It positively impacts real people in their day to day lives. The industry is continuously evolving and legislative changes that impact the industry are constant. For someone to be successful in this industry you need to be passionate as well as adaptive.
If your friends/family/colleagues were to give you an award, what would it be for?
Remaining positive and being able to ease the tension in the most stressful of situations.
If someone would make a documentary about you, what would be the title?
“Cassy: Running Toward the Unknown”
