This week we’re learning more about Tenley Walker of Selectpath Benefits & Financial
What inspired you to enter the industry?
After spending several years in the automotive financial services industry, I was introduced to the Employee Benefits space when searching for a career change. I had the opportunity to meet with several successful advisors as well as executives from the carrier side, and it didn’t take me long to realize it was an industry that I wanted to be a part of. After weighing all of my options, I felt that RBC Insurance best suited what I was looking for. I started with RBC Insurance in early 2013 and held progressive roles within the organization before ultimately joining Selectpath in January of 2022.
Who is your mentor?
I have been fortunate to have had many mentors in my life, starting with my parents. Michael Hyatt has been a constant guiding light for me since we met in 2006, both professionally and personally. Since I started in the benefits business, Paul Crossdale, John Griffin, Todd Stephen, Gord Hart and Lynn & Brian Brophy have been instrumental for my growth and development.
What are some things that people don’t know about you?
I played basketball for Team Ontario growing up and Varsity Basketball at Western University. My husband and I have 2 young children, a boy and a girl and a tea-cup yorkie named Nike.
What are the biggest lessons that you have learned in the business?
Hard work, continuous learning, and stepping outside of my comfort zone have help me develop and grow. Listening to my clients and always striving to deliver an exceptional experience have helped me to be successful.
Do you have insights about the industry that you would like to share?
Understanding that benefits are not one-size-fits-all, and that every employer has different priorities. Technology is paving the way for the future of benefits.
