In this week’s Benefits Alliance Member Spotlight, we’re getting to know Martin Papillon from AGA Benefits Solutions.
Q :Where your firm operates, geographically speaking.
A: Our firm is headquartered in Montreal, and we also operate a branch in Quebec city. Most of our clients are Quebec based, although many of them have national operations.
How did you enter the industry?
A: I started my career as an actuarial analyst for one of the big actuarial firms, working mainly on defined benefit pension plans. I started doing group insurance when asked by a pension client, and eventually decided to focus exclusively on group benefits.
Q: What is something that people do not know about you?
A: Despite my strong inclination to work long hours, I am a family man. I have 5 children aged 10 to 28 and I spend a lot of time with them and my wife!
Q: What is the biggest lesson that you have learned in the business?
A: Grey hair is a good thing. If you don’t have any, make sure you have some on your team because there are some things you will only learn with experience.
Q: What are you hoping to do with The Benefits Alliance Group?
A: Being a member of BA gives me exposure to the emerging challenges our industry is facing across the country, working out solutions with other successful entrepreneurs. It’s great to be part of such a talented group of senior leaders!
Q: Do you have insights about the industry that you would like to share?
A: I hear a lot of people complain about how competitive our industry is. True, but it is also a growing industry! We sometimes forget how lucky we are to operate in an industry that has demonstrated its ability to innovate and grow consistently for over 5 decades.
